What type of food does Janette’s Custom Calorie Meals prepare?

Janette’s Custom Calorie Meals prepares healthy homemade options for traditional cuisine, snacks, and desserts. All recipes are absent of highly processed ingredients, grain-free, gluten-free, and Keto and Paleo-friendly. We also have added plant-based entrees to our menu, too. Organic spices and organic produce are utilized when available.  

The convenient cuisine options include Custom Individual Meals (CIM), Healthy Bakes, Keto/Paleo Gourmet Stuffed Cups & Drop-Biscuits and Fresh-Frozen Slow-Cooker Entrees (FFSCE). The dessert selections, Janette’s Gourmet Treats & Eats, include low-carb treats. The healthy fats used in recipes are olive oil, coconut oil, coconut milk, coconut flour, almond flour, grass-fed butter, cream cheese, and whipping cream.

What does Fresh-Frozen mean?

For Janette’s Custom Calorie Meals, “fresh-frozen means that our convenient cuisine options are prepared 1 to 2 days before they are delivered to you.  After a cuisine option is prepared, weighed, portioned, packaged, and labeled, the item is immediately placed into our commercial freezer. All orders are delivered on FridaysFresh-Frozen Slow-Cooker Entrees are prepared every Wednesday. Custom Individual Meals, Healthy Bakes, and Keto/Paleo Gourmet Stuffed Cups & Drop-Biscuits are prepared every Thursday, one-day before delivery-day. 

What are calories?

A calorie is a unit of heat energy that is used to measure the amount of energy stored in food. All calories are not created equal.

Think about this, 100 calories of a chicken breast verses 100 calories of milk chocolate. Which set of calories will your body utilize more efficiently to complete your tasks for the day? The answer, of course, is the chicken breast.

What are macros (macro-nutrients)?

These are the three macro-nutrients that the human body needs in order to function properly: carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Each of these macro-nutrients provides energy in the form of calories.

  • A gram of carbohydrate has 4 calories

There are generally 2 kinds of carbohydrates: FIBER and SUGAR. What is a fiber-carb? Fiber is roughage, the indigestible portion of food that moves food through us. Fiber is NOT an energy source.

When calculating macros, most dietitians and nutritionists separate fiber-carbs from sugar-carbs. Calculations of carbohydrates as macros, typically include “subtracting the fiber-carbs”, know as the NET-carb total (meaning, the NET-carb total will be utilized as energy in the body). Fiber-carbs are, in essence, FREE!

Always read the label! Example: Total carbs = 15 (fiber 5 + sugar 10) But, then subtract the fiber-carbs, so the NET-carbs that is recorded are = 10 carbs (15 – 5).

  • A gram of protein has 4 calories
  • A gram of fat has 9 calories
